The true rebirth of the power trio is upon us. Wolfmother, consisting of three curly haired brothers in music is spreading the word of escapist explorations in rock to the world. Though, somehow, rock just doesn't seem to encompass the multi-layered anthropological dig that is Wolfmother.-
The shrilling vocals of Andrew Stockdale are rhythmically dictated with the conviction of a preacher from the dark side of the moon; simultaneously enhanced by the ceremonial style keyboards and evil bass riffs of Chris Ross and then obliterated by Myles Heskett's drum patterns from Zion.- - -
After Ross and Heskett had collected every keyboard available in the Southern Hemisphere, they turned to their guitar-centric musical comrade who as a hermit, absorbed himself in melancholic nylon string folk to see what kind of musical happening could come to fruition.-
At this point the purpose presented itself - a simple sound with a primal synergy. Little did they know what consequences this would have on the greater consciousness of the universe. -
Wolfmother shows have been a calling to all, with the audience containing those from all walks of life. The 70's rock establishment elders have lined the bars tilting their hats in relief that their cause had not gone unheard. The electro kids are bedazzled by rock sounding so damn danceable and fresh, wondering how they can get their 808 to fuzz out like the Wolfmother rhythm section. -
Air guitarists from all schools of rock have found there new ambassador for total abandonment in guitar hedonism in Stockdale's guitar solos layered over Ross' bi-polar disorder, sludgy grooves. Drum techs have been found backstage sharing man love with Heskett's lime green floor tom.-
No longer shall the complexities of life with its desperate flaws and triumphant moments of affirmation be mocked by a prosaic formulaic pop that has left us anxious and scared of our own inner demons. No - now is a time to get dirty and celebrate the all-encompassing chaos order theory that is Wolfmother.-
The Wolfmother EP was recorded by the band themselves, with the songs largely taken from a demo recording originally created earlier last year to get the band shows. Three of the songs from the demo were re-recorded by the band in their Spanish Quarter studios with the addition of Apple Tree, to make up the EP we have today. The recording was then shipped over to the states to Jim Diamond of The Dirtbombs for mastering duties, who brought the recording as close to the hulk-sized live sound as you could hope for.-
Since the EP's Australian release, Wolfmother have gone on to sell out shows in Australia, winning over new fans to the way of the wolf with every stop, and have also had the opportunity to play shows in New York and LA, and in London, including a support slot with The Black Keys at Sheperds Bush Empire. This summer in Australia, Wolfmother took to the festival circuit, first at Homebake in Sydney, followed by the Meredith Music Festival in Victoria, an appearance at the Southbound Music Festival in WA, and a complete run of dates with the Big Day Out festival. Watch out for the wonder beast.
