Workshop/performance to celebrate the end-of-year partnership between the Black Achievers Program and Seattle Theatre Group. Participating artists include The Massive Monkees, Sukutai Music & Dance Ensemble, and Aaron Gordon of Westlake Dance Center.


YOUNG SONGWRITERS LAB

Summer Training Program in Songwriting
July 30, July 31, & August 7, 2010

The Young Songwriters Lab provides an opportunity for young musicians (ages 14-early 20s) to learn about the songwriting process. Under the mentorship of professional musicians, students will learn creative approaches to song composition and lyric writing, along with strategies for navigating the music business. Mentors include: Sue Ennis (songwriter for Heart), Jill Wangsgard (composer, arranger, producer), Draze (hip hop artist & producer), plus guest artists (TBA). DANCE This Camp @ Centrum
August 8-14, 2010
Centrum in Port Townsend, WA

Open to high school students, DANCE This Camp @ Centrum is an opportunity for young dancers at all levels to study dance for one week in beautiful Port Townsend, WA.  Styles include ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, social and African dance. Please note: this is a residential program/camp.  Registration begins FALL 2009. For more information, email Education.

Ongoing Programs:

  • Alley Cat Theatre
    A series of performances featuring local performers. More information to come.

  • Black Achievers Program Partnership
    STG partners with the Meredith Matthews YMCA Black Achievers Program to expose students to a wide range of performing arts programs. Activities for participants include on-site participatory workshops in music, dance and theatre, a Careers in the Arts presentation and attendance at six STG presentations at the Paramount and Moore Theatres throughout the 2008-2009 season.

  • In-school Workshops and Residencies
    Interested in a hands-on arts experience for students at your school? STG offers residencies available in cultural and contemporary dance and music with Northwest-based artists. Arts instruction is available to suit your school’s interests and needs—varying from a one-time workshop to multiple week residency. Activities are in line with Washington State Arts EALRS and are tailored to students' skill level and ages.  
    Grades: Elementary, Middle and High School

  • Historic Tours of The Paramount and Moore Theatres
    Seattle Theatre Group gives the public a chance to learn more about the historic Paramount and Moore Theatres while giving them a glimpse behind the scenes. Free; once a month; the first Saturday of every month at 10am at The Paramount & the second Saturday of every month at 10am at The Moore Theatre. For more information, click here.

  • Student Tours: STG offers free tours of the historic Paramount and Moore Theatres for educators and students ages seven and up. Tour guides introduce students to theatre architecture, design, history and technical aspects. Schedule tours upon request for student groups.

  • Theatre Access Program (TAP)
    STG annually provides thousands of tickets to performances at The Paramount and Moore Theatres to school groups, youth organizations, community centers, social service organizations, young artists and seniors who would otherwise be unable to afford the opportunity. To apply, click here.

  • The Young Choreographers Lab
    The Young Choreographers Lab is for teens interested in pursuing their artistic vision as choreographers as well as dancers. Up to 20 teens are selected each year to investigate movement invention. In the fall, participants meet once a week, for eight weeks for choreography master classes and in the spring selected choreographers create a larger work—all with the mentorship of leading Seattle choreographers.
