ZOE KEATING - Performance, Talk, Q&A

Avant garde cellist, Zoe Keating, will give a short, private performance to approx 50 music students, followed by a talk/Q&A.

Zoë Keating is a one-woman orchestra. She uses a cello and a foot-controlled laptop to record layer upon layer of cello, creating intricate, haunting and compelling music. Zoë is known for both her use of technology - which she uses to sample her cello onstage - and for her DIY ethic which has resulted in the sale of over 45,000 copies
of her self-released albums and a devoted social media following.

YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHER’S LAB PERFORMANCE

STG presents works choreographed by four aspiring teen choreographers from STG’s Young Choreographer’s Lab. The Young Choreographer’s Lab is for teens interested in pursuing their artistic vision as choreographers as well as dancers. Reservations requested to our Education Department.

STG is seeking advanced ballet/contemporary dancers (ages 14-22) to perform in works by Mark Haim and Sonia Dawkins in Seattle Theatre Group’s DANCE This performance on July 12-14, 2012 at The Moore Theatre. DT is an annual young artist performance program in cross cultural and contemporary dance produced by STG. All performers will also rehearse and perform in a cross-cultural finale choreographed by Daniel Cruz. Tech/Performance week commitment (July 6-11, 2012) is intensive and includes workshops, finale and tech/dress rehearsals.

May 7-May 31: M/Th evenings and May 19-May 20 afternoons (Detailed schedule available upon registration)

DANCE THIS SUMMER TRAINING INTENSIVE
June 25-July 7, 2012
Pacific Northwest Ballet, The Phelps Center (Seattle Center)
(Ages 13-21; Registration required)

The DANCE This Summer Training Intensive is an opportunity for young dancers (ages 13-21) at all levels to immerse themselves in dance over the course of two weeks. Students will be exposed to a wide range of dance styles and techniques in a supportive, yet challenging atmosphere. Instruction includes Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre, Choreography, Ballroom/Salsa, African, Conditioning & special workshops. Learn more and register here.


MARK MORRIS DANCE GROUP SEATTLE INTENSIVE
June 25-30, 2012
Cornish College of the Arts

Seattle Theatre Group, Cornish College of the Arts and Mark Morris Dance Group partner up to offer a Mark Morris Dance Intensive in Seattle. Daily classes include Modern Dance, Ballet, Pilates and MMDG Repertory. Additional activities may include dancer panel discussions, injury prevention seminars, and music workshops. DANCE This brings together teen performers from diverse communities for collaboration and to share their culture through the art of dance. The performance features young local dancers in collaboration with professional artists performing cross cultural dances—both traditionally rooted and contemporary in form.

STG'S SONGWRITERS LAB

STG's Songwriters Lab is open to serious, aspiring musicians, ages 14-early 20s, who are interested in growing as songwriters and performers. Under the mentorship of professional musicians, students will learn creative approaches to song composition and lyric writing, along with strategies for navigating the music business. Past mentors include: Jill Wangsgard (composer, arranger, producer), Sue Ennis (songwriter for Heart),  Dumi Maraire (hip-hop artist, producer), Bernadette Bascom (vocal & performance coach), plus guest artists. SEATTLE ROCK ORCHESTRA SUMMER INTENSIVE
July 30 - August 3, 2012
The Moore Theatre (1932 2nd Avenue)
9am - 12pm: Middle School Students (grades 7-8)
1pm - 5pm: High School Students (grades 9-12)
Middle and high school students have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to have the full Seattle Rock Orchestra (SRO) experience this summer at our first-ever Summer Intensive. Musicians will perform current and past radio hits, collaborate with local indie-rock artists, and participate in workshops on topics such as orchestration, improvisation, rock technique for classical instruments, and how to form a band. The Intensive is run by outstanding local music educators, including SRO Music Director/Founder Scott Teske, SRO Conductor Kim Roy and other members of SRO. SRO Summer Intensive is available to students in middle and high school, who play woodwind, brass, and string instruments. All students must have played their instrument, either in their school music program or in private lessons, for one year. All students must be able to read music. DANCE THIS CAMP @ CENTRUM
August 5-11, 2012
Centrum in Port Townsend, WA

DANCE This Camp @ Centrum is an opportunity for young dancers at ALL LEVELS to study dance for one week in beautiful Port Townsend, WA. Students will participate in African, Ballet, Choreography, Hip-Hop and Modern dance workshops with professional educators from the Seattle area. Please note: this is a residential program/camp. Ongoing Programs:


  • Black Achievers Program Partnership
    STG partners with the Meredith Matthews YMCA Black Achievers Program to expose students to a wide range of performing arts programs. Activities for participants include on-site participatory workshops in music, dance and theatre, a Careers in the Arts presentation and attendance at six STG presentations at the Paramount and Moore Theatres throughout the 2008-2009 season.

  • In-school Workshops and Residencies
    Interested in a hands-on arts experience for students at your school? STG offers residencies available in cultural and contemporary dance and music with Northwest-based artists. Arts instruction is available to suit your school’s interests and needs—varying from a one-time workshop to multiple week residency. Activities are in line with Washington State Arts EALRS and are tailored to students' skill level and ages.

  • Historic Tours of The Paramount and Moore Theatres
    Seattle Theatre Group gives the public a chance to learn more about the historic Paramount and Moore Theatres while giving them a glimpse behind the scenes. Free; once a month; the first Saturday of every month at 10am at The Paramount & the second Saturday of every month at 10am at The Moore Theatre. For more information, click here.

  • Student Tours: STG offers free tours of the historic Paramount and Moore Theatres for educators and students ages seven and up. Tour guides introduce students to theatre architecture, design, history and technical aspects. Schedule tours upon request for student groups.

  • Theatre Access Program (TAP)
    STG annually provides thousands of tickets to performances at The Paramount and Moore Theatres to school groups, youth organizations, community centers, social service organizations, young artists and seniors who would otherwise be unable to afford the opportunity. To apply, click here.

  • The Young Choreographers Lab
    The Young Choreographers Lab is for teens interested in pursuing their artistic vision as choreographers as well as dancers. Up to 20 teens are selected each year to investigate movement invention. In the fall, participants meet once a week, for eight weeks for choreography master classes and in the spring selected choreographers create a larger work—all with the mentorship of leading Seattle choreographers.
